Gamma generates presentations, documents, and simple websites from a text prompt or an imported file. Type a topic or paste an outline, pick a theme, and it produces a full deck — structure, copy, layouts, icons, and stock or AI-generated images — in well under a minute. Founded in 2020 by former Optimizely product lead Grant Lee, Gamma became one of the breakout AI productivity apps, passing tens of millions of users while staying a small team.

What separates it from Tome (which pivoted away from presentations), Beautiful.ai, or Canva’s slide tools is the “card” format. Gamma decks are flexible cards that can expand and scroll rather than fixed 16:9 slides, so the same content works as a shareable webpage, an embedded doc, or a traditional exported deck. Restyling is one click: change theme and every card re-flows, which kills the usual slide-by-slide font surgery.

The AI editing loop matters as much as generation. You can select any card and tell the AI to shorten it, split it in two, change the visual, or adjust tone — closer to editing with a designer than fighting a template.

Limitations

AI actions consume credits, and free-tier credits do not renew generously, so heavy users end up on Pro. PPTX export sometimes shifts layouts, since cards do not map perfectly onto fixed slides — if your workflow ends in PowerPoint, expect cleanup. Precision designers will still prefer Figma or Keynote.
