Domo

Domo is a cloud business-intelligence platform founded in 2010 by Josh James (who previously founded and sold web-analytics company Omniture to Adobe). It aims to be a full stack in one place: it ingests data through a large library of connectors, stores and transforms it, then presents it in dashboards, alerts, and custom data apps — so a company can run its analytics without stitching together separate ETL, warehouse, and visualization tools.

Its AI layer, marketed as Domo.AI, adds anomaly detection, forecasting, and natural-language question-answering, letting business users type a question and get a chart back rather than writing SQL. Domo has also added support for connecting to external large language models and building AI agents on top of company data.

Compared with Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or Looker, Domo’s differentiators are the breadth of built-in connectors, a genuinely strong mobile app, and the all-in-one approach. Its main drawback is cost and pricing opacity — Domo is aimed at mid-market and enterprise buyers, not individuals.

Limitations

The biggest friction is pricing: it is quote-only and consumption-based, which makes budgeting difficult and tends to run expensive as usage grows. For small teams or simple reporting, Power BI, Looker Studio, or Metabase deliver most of the value at a fraction of the cost. Domo’s all-in-one breadth is also more than many organizations need.
